The word KORU means jewellery in Finnish.

The KORU event was established in 2003 in Lappeenranta, Finland. The event is a triennial and, as such, it is the longest-running contemporary jewellery event in Finland. KORU1 was held in 2003, and KORU9 will be held in 2027.

The events numbered 1–4 were organized by Saimaa University of Applied Sciences together with art museums in Lappeenranta and Imatra. The Arts Council of Southeast Finland was also involved. In 2015, The Finnish Jewellery Art Association took over the event and has been the organizer since KORU5.

The most visible part of the event is the international contemporary jewellery exhibition. Over the years, KORU exhibitions have been shown at the South Karelia Museum, Lappeenranta Art Museum, Imatra Art Museum, Vaasa City Art Gallery, Kuopio Art Museum, Artspace Laikku in Tampere, Suvilahti in Helsinki, Finnish Forest Museum Lusto and Oulu Art Museum.

At each event, there has also been a seminar and workshops, both of which bring people together to discuss and work on topics related to contemporary jewellery.

KORU9 event is organized by The Finnish Jewellery Art Association.

The Finnish Jewellery Art Association was founded in Lappeenranta in 2005. The association aims to promote contemporary jewellery in Finland and to improve its recognition as an art and design form. Another goal of the association is to increase awareness of Finnish jewellery internationally. To achieve these aims, the association organizes exhibitions, presentations, and panel discussions, and distributes information about its activities.
